March 22, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Event Navigation
Dr. Holmes will present new research in development on indigenous Mexican farmworker youth in California, Washington State, and the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico. This mixed-method qualitative research will explore hierarchies of race, class, gender, and language, as well as sources of strength and resilience among Triqui and Mixtec farmworker youth. In addition, the project will focus on workers’ health outcomes, interactions with health care, and aspirations for the future. Comments and feedback are welcome. This research project is in a pilot phase and is funded by the Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety.
Seth Holmes is a cultural and medical anthropologist and physician whose work focuses broadly on social hierarchies, health inequalities, and the ways in which perceptions of social difference may naturalize, normalize, or challenge these inequalities.
