More than 200,000 Mexican Americans served in Vietnam. How did the war impact the Chicano community, and how do those effects linger today? Tomás Summers Sandoval has explored this question through oral histories of Chicano veterans and community members. He’ll discuss his findings, which will be published in a forthcoming book and incorporated into a dramatic performance piece.

Tomás F. Summers Sandoval is a professor of history and Chicana/o-Latina/o studies at Pomona College, where he works to study the past as a form of activism in the present. A Chicano born and raised in California, he is the other of Latinos at the Golden Gate: Creating Community and Identity in San Francisco.
