Jobs for Freedom/1400 Jobs Campaign

April 4, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Come learn about the campaign led by the Bay Area Black Worker Center and Justice Reinvestment Coalition that resulted in the Alameda County Re-Entry Hiring Program. The program aims to place Alameda county residents with felony convictions into county jobs. After decades of funding job training programs with abysmal outcomes for placing people into permanent employment, this program is poised to make a difference. Find out more about the model and lessons learned.

Danielle Mahones is a facilitator and trainer with the UC Berkeley Labor Center’s National Black Worker Center Project. For nine years she served as the executive director of the Center for Third World Organizing (CTWO), a racial justice organization dedicated to building a social justice movement led by people of color. Prior to this Danielle spent a decade working in the labor movement, organizing hotel workers, janitors, hospital workers, and university workers.
