Mexico City, 1996
Attorney Ventura Galvan spent weeks in the dark in an ambulance
parked in downtown Mexico City, protesting the privatization of
the Route-100 bus company in 1996. Outside the ambulance, the drivers'
union SUTAUR-100 conducted a non-stop rally, 24 hours a day. "In
our country there are only two classes," Galvan explained,
"the rich and the poor. Every day the poor are more marginalized,
without the right to education, health or even food. Now they're
taking away the right to public transport. We cannot tolerate what's
happening to us any more."
